Jalal the fisherman is now a grocer

The most attractive feature of Jalal, who is physically challenged, is that he always has a smile on his face. After being born with disabilities, his growing up environment was challenging at every moment. An acceptable environment has not yet been created for children with disabilities or special needs in Haor area. But it's true – the picture has been changing rapidly over the past decade. According to the instructions of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of the present government, no disabled person is now neglected. The literate Jalal had to take responsibility for the family after entering adolescence from adolescence. When the heaviest responsibilities of life were pressed upon the neck, the worst moments of neglect and deprivation were repeated day after day. But Jalal's smiling face never let him lose. Jalal had to walk a long way to meet the actual basic expenses, even though the rice system was done by capitalizing on the small ancestral property.

The haors of the upazila are alive most of the year. The story of Jalal is scattered in almost all of the 23 haors in Tahirpur upazila. Howre fishermen are busy day and night. Jalal has to prove himself as a capable person again and again by mixing with the ecologically friendly fishermen. It also happened that days after days were passed while fishing. Physical handicaps could never shake Jalal's mental state. He had to work harder than any other normal person. When his honesty and hardworking attitude are established in the fishermen's group, Jalal plans to get out of the fishermen's net.

After learning about the rehabilitation of the disabled, interest-free micro-loans as promised by the current government through the social worker of the Upazila Social Service Office, he is interested - he will set himself up as a businessman. The fact that he will never give up on himself – this is what makes him take on the challenge the most. In 2008, when he shared his dream with a social service officer, the social service office granted Jalal an interest-free micro-loan of Rs 10,000 as per his wishes – the scheme was called Mudi Khakpi. Even though the grocery store can get the products with the money of micro-loan, the system of making the store is an obstacle. With the help of Social Service Office and Upazila Administration, a shop was arranged for him next to Upazila Shaheed Minar. Most of the daily necessities are sold in his shop. One of the reasons for the increase in the sales of his store – Jalal's cheerful face.

Jalal's family has changed from a fisherman to a grocer. Jalal had a princess a few months ago. In 2020, Jalal again took interest-free microloans. This time he took 15,000 rupees. Jalal never has to insist on loan installments. He walked with difficulty to the office and paid the installments. I asked Jalal, who became a businessman with interest-free micro-loan money - don't you miss the life of a fisherman? Jalal's sarcastic reply – No, sir. don't miss There was uncertainty in that life, and now I am an independent trader. Now I have a lot of respect. No one bothers to think of me as a friend now, but there was a time when I had no one to hang out with. Now I am a businessman. I am a member of Tahirpur Bazar Traders Association. I have the price now.

After learning that Bangabandhu had introduced this loan, Jalal's excitement increased. He admitted in one sentence - who else would have thought of us if not for Bangabandhu's daughter! May the prime minister live for another 100 years for us. A pin written 'Mujib Shatavarsh' is hanging on Jalal's chest.
